❓ Can you swim in the river at the cottage?
Yes! The river is perfect for a refreshing swim, with several inviting spots both upstream and downstream of the private dam. Depths range from shallow wading areas to sections over 6–7+ feet deep. For a one-of-a-kind adventure and a truly memorable moment, you can even swim right up to the base of the dam in the downstream section for a fun and unique experience!

Here’s a bit of background about the dam — it’s a 120-year-old structure that once powered a sawmill on the property back in the late 1800s and early 1900s. (That’s actually how Mill Road got its name!) Today, it’s one of the most unique and charming features of the Riverfront Hideaway.

• Life jackets for young children – for safety and peace of mind
(Please note: life jackets are not currently provided at the cottage, so be sure to pack your own.)

❓ Can you fish in the river at the cottage?
Absolutely — while it's not a premier fishing destination, there are definitely some fish in the river behind the cottage — mostly smaller pike and trout, especially upstream of the dam. You’ll also often see fish gathering at the base of the dam, swimming into the current as they try to make their way upstream.

While it’s not considered trophy fishing, it’s a fun and easy way to spend a relaxing afternoon by the river and it's perfect for casual fishing or fun with the kids — and many of our guests have had a great time catching a few fish right from the backyard.

If you're looking for more serious fishing or hoping to catch larger fish, we recommend heading just 5 minutes up the road to Connell's Lake or Hines Lake — both offer better fishing conditions and are locally known spots. (Fun fact: the river behind the cottage is actually fed by Robson Lake.)

🌊 Seasonal Water Level Note:
As part of our regular winter maintenance, we lower the dam boards to protect the dam structure from ice and spring runoff. This temporarily lowers the water level in the river and backyard pond (which is created by the dam), with levels returning to normal each spring.

The river continues to flow naturally year-round, but guests visiting in late fall and winter will notice lower water levels compared to spring and summer. It’s a normal part of our seasonal care routine that helps keep the property and ecosystem healthy year-round.

Guest access

Guests have full access to the entire cottage, with the exception of the utility room located in the basement.

Please note that guests assume all responsibility for their safety and well-being during their stay. This includes any accidents or injuries that may occur on the property, in or around the river and dam, or while using the children's playset.
